Family Heritage & Sustainability

Welcome to Maison Dalabua, a family-run eco-friendly hotel in Luang Prabang where Lao heritage, environmental responsibility and authentic hospitality meet in perfect harmony. Nestled around a UNESCO-classified lily pond and bordered by our one-hectare organic garden along the Nam Khan River, our boutique property has been part of the same family for generations. Today, we are proud to be recognised as a green hotel in Laos, certified by Travelife for our commitment to sustainability, and to actively contribute to sustainable tourism in Luang Prabang through concrete daily practices: zero single-use plastic, organic gardening, locally sourced products, water-treatment technology and fair employment for our local team. Our story is one of love for Lao culture, respect for nature and dedication to the well-being of our guests, our community and our environment. Discover below the heritage, the people and the values that make Maison Dalabua a unique address in northern Laos — and a meaningful place to stay for travellers who care.

The property where Maison Dalabua and Manda de Laos stand has been in our family for generations. My mother Phiew was born in 1930 in Luang Prabang, the eldest of three children. Her mother owned a small shop selling household goods, while her father worked at the Royal Palace, organising Baci ceremonies for royal births and ceremonial events, and also working as a goldsmith.

Like all young ladies in Luang Prabang at that time, Maman Phiew learned to cook traditional Lao dishes from her mother. When she married my father, they raised 10 children — including 5 daughters — to whom she passed her knowledge and her love of cooking.

Her daily life was devoted to family and to her small business, and she always focused on her children’s welfare, particularly their meals which required great attention. In the days before fast food and eating out, traditional dishes such as Laap required a full day of preparation, with nothing left to chance or guesswork.

Why Maison Dalabua Is an Eco-Friendly Hotel in Luang Prabang

Choosing a green hotel in Laos means choosing an experience where comfort never comes at the expense of the environment or local communities. At Maison Dalabua, sustainability is not a marketing claim — it is a way of life inherited from our family and shared with our guests every day.

Our UNESCO-Classified Lily Pond: A Living Heritage

At the heart of our eco-friendly hotel in Luang Prabang lies our UNESCO-classified lily pond — a living symbol of heritage and harmony with nature. Surrounded by lush greenery and vibrant lotus flowers, this tranquil pond is far more than a beautiful centrepiece: it is a thriving ecosystem that inspires everything we do.

Caring for this unique environment is a responsibility we cherish. Our dedicated gardeners, with careful hands and deep knowledge, tend to the pond every day to preserve its health and beauty. The pond also nurtures local wildlife and supports the rich biodiversity of Luang Prabang. We invite you to pause, breathe and appreciate this peaceful space — where tradition, ecology and the spirit of Laos come together.

Our Organic Garden Along the Nam Khan River

Nestled along the banks of the Nam Khan River, our one-hectare organic garden is a true labour of love and a cornerstone of the Maison Dalabua experience. Initiated by Madame Toune, this verdant space is where we grow an abundance of vegetables, herbs and fruits — entirely free from chemical pesticides or fertilisers.

Every morning, our gardeners tend to the soil, plant, harvest and select the freshest produce, which is brought directly to the tables of our restaurants. From fragrant Lao herbs to seasonal fruits and crisp vegetables, the harvest shapes the authentic flavours of our dishes and embodies our commitment to sustainable tourism in Luang Prabang.
